Kinds of CBD Oil to Know About

by Madhuri Boinwad

So many CBD or cannabidiol products are on the market today, and it’s difficult to find brands that are consistent, high-quality, and transparent. CBD or cannabidiol is one of the popular health and wellness products today, and the industry is expected to bring a hefty revenue in the next few years.

However, what is CBD in the first place? Is it even legal if it’s extracted from cannabis plants? The answer is in this guide which will let you know more about it.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol is a compound that’s derived from the plant Cannabis sativa. The cannabis plant is also known for its other compound called THC, which is found in marijuana. The THC produces a psychoactive feeling or a high, and it’s usually euphoric. THC is what many users want to experience when they smoke cannabis and get that feeling of being on the clouds.

On the other hand, CBD provides a lot of health effects without the added high. It does not hinder the user, and it does not have any euphoria associated with it. Many other generations have long suppressed the wonders that cannabidiol can bring through legislation and laws that deemed the entire cannabis plant a harmful and dangerous drug.

However, with the Farm Bill of 2018, several changes in how people see cannabis was seen. The Agricultural Improvement Act removed cannabis from Schedule I drugs usually reserved for barbiturates, marijuana, and other harmful substances. With this legalization, it’s not surprising how the CBD industry has exploded in the market.

What Does Cannabidiol Do?

The extracted substances from the cannabis plants like CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This system produces natural cannabinoids in the body where one’s appetite, temperature, and sleep are regulated. The interaction of CBD with this system creates a positive effect where individuals develop better appetites, get deeper sleep, and significantly reduce their anxieties. While CBD has genuinely unique benefits, many scientists are still trying to discover its full capabilities.

What are Broad-Spectrum and Full-Spectrum Products?

Full spectrum is a product that contains all the compounds that are naturally found in the cannabis plant. It has terpenes, phytocannabinoids, flavonoids, and a little bit of THC. Know that THC, which is less than 0.3% is beneficial to the body since it boosts the effects of CBD. The pain relief will be faster with the full-spectrum bottles since all the organic and natural ingredients work together. They are more expensive than other types, but they are usually worth it.

In broad-spectrum varieties, it only has CBD but excludes THC. These premium CBD oils are usually found online and in stores. The products are made up of the usual cannabidiol, terpenes, flavonoids, and other compounds, but there’s no THC mixed into them. This is ideal for first-time users who don’t smoke weed.

Use and Effectiveness

The extracts are generally used for the treatment of epilepsy. The GW Pharmaceuticals’ Epidiolex is a prescription drug used to treat patients with the Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet Syndromes. These may also apply to patients who have tuberculosis sclerosis complex. It might be unclear if the other forms of CBD may be helpful with the seizures. If in doubt, better stick to the prescribed products.

Other Possible Uses

Multiple Sclerosis

Some nasal sprays, like the Sativex, which contains both cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol, are usually used in multiple sclerosis. Overall, this is an improvement in patients experiencing urination frequency, muscle tightness, and pain. The products are used in many other countries outside of the US.

However, inconsistent pieces of evidence are found when researchers use CBD alone. Most of the early research suggests that a cannabidiol spray under the tongue might improve painful muscles and tightness. However, this may not overly affect the mobility, muscle spasms, tiredness, and overall wellbeing of many patients. More studies are needed for the extracts and their uses to MS.

Side Effects

In the appropriate doses, it’s found out that cannabidiol is safe and effective. A daily dosage of 300 mg can be safely taken for up to 6 months. Doses of 1,200 to 1,500 taken daily are safe for four weeks

Other situations may see patients feeling slight lightheadedness, low blood pressure, dry mouth, and drowsiness if they take a lot of cannabidiol in a short period of time. There’s also a possibility of a liver injury if you don’t follow the prescribed doses on the label. There’s not much information about their applications and side effects when it comes to topicals, and this is still being studied.

Warnings and Special Precautions

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it might be unsafe to take CBD for your child. The product may contain ingredients that are not ideal for the unborn fetus or infant. It’s best if you should avoid these products and stay on the safe side.

For children, the prescription of Epidiolex through tinctures is up to 25mg/kg daily. This is for children who are at least one year old. It’s not studied if the other products aside from Epidiolex are safe but consult your doctor if you’re unsure.

Patients with liver diseases may need to lower their doses with CBD. Consult a physician before taking anything outside of your medication. Also, it helps if you could choose the best products in the market and never skimp on them.
