Although we spend a lot of our time in our bedroom sleeping, there’s no reason why it should lack personality or pizazz. You may have a fun bed set and pretty furniture, but there’s more than you can do (on a budget!) to make your bedroom a little cozier.
Here are five budget-friendly ways you can revamp your bedroom.
1. Dreamy colors
The color of your bedroom probably shouldn’t be a big deal because you’re sleeping, so it’s not like you can enjoy it. Well, we say that if you’ve wanted to paint a room a color that isn’t white or neutral, your bedroom is the perfect place to do it.
What color should you choose? Well, Pantone’s color of the year is Veri Peri (a shade of purple), but if that color’s too bright for your tastes, you can choose a color a few shades darker or lighter than that.
Note: Don’t worry about paint colors when you have a home appraisal coming up. The appraiser won’t hold your color choices against you – but buyers might!

2. New linens
This is one area where we don’t think you should buy the cheapest thing you can find because bedding can make or break how well you sleep. But with that in mind, you don’t have to buy the most expensive sets either. We recommend choosing sheets with at least a 200 thread count. Anything lower than that is going to feel like you’re sleeping on sandpaper.
3. Layer, layer, layer
One of the easiest ways you can up the elegance in your bedroom is by layering. For example, use different textured throw pillows on the bed and maybe add a velvet blanket to the foot of the bed. Instead of using just one set of curtains, hang a set of sheer curtains and then top that with blackout curtains.
4. New bedside table
Bedroom furniture isn’t cheap, and upgrading the entire furniture set is going to be quite expensive. Until you’re ready to invest in new furniture, think outside of the box and use something unique for a new bedside table. You can do something unique like use a stack of luggage to create a mock table or stick to something a little less unique like a bookshelf, a stool, chair, or a crate. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
5. Bring nature indoors
Adding plants to your bedroom not only adds color and life to your room, but they can also help purify the air, which may help you breathe easier while sleeping. Of course, if you have a brown thumb, you can decorate with succulents or even faux plants.
Budget-friendly ideas for creating a comfortable dreamland
Your bedroom should feel like your own personal sanctuary instead of like a bland box with just the essential bedroom pieces. It should be a place where you feel at ease when you’re winding down for the night. It should give you the calming feeling that you’re in for a good night’s sleep.
These budget-friendly decor ideas are just the beginning. There are a lot of great sources both online and on television to get some ideas. And if you want to sell, you can find a realtor who has an interior decorator in their network for more help.
